The 21 chapters of John are some of the most profound of all Scripture, like a fathomless sea or as the wisdom of God is described in Romans 11:33-36!
The Holy Spirit has already in the three prior Gospels presented the Lord Jesus Jehovah Christ as The King in Matthew, The Prophet in Mark, and The Priest in Luke. Now in John we have Jesus presented as the Creator God like Isaiah 40:9  said “Behold your God!” Jesus Christ is God the Son and Son of God.  The purpose of John is the emphasis on the person of Jesus Christ as the eternal God Jehovah.  Yes, oh yes, Jehovah is a triune God, being one God revealed in three distinct persons but as one in essence and attributes.

“Before Abraham was, I am”. John 8:58.  Compare this with Exodus 3:14; Revelation 22:12-13; 21:6; 1:8, 11, 17-18, with Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12, 16-17!  GLORY !!!   If you follow honestly the chain of evidence in comparing the previous verses you realize that Jesus is Jehovah (LORD) as well as the Father and the Holy Spirit.  This same God, the eternal WORD, came to earth and robed Himself in human flesh and walked among men:  “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”  John 1:14

Awesome wonderful God – all because He loved us:   Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.   No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”  John 10:17-18  He came to die for our sins because there was absolutely no other rescue that could be made by anyone else, anywhere, ever!  The rescue entailed PAYMENT!  “The wages of sin is death”.  All sin must be paid for.  Either we pay for it forever in the Lake of Fire (Hell) or we let Jesus Christ pay for it – for us.  He has already made the perfect sacrifice of His own blood on Calvary’s Cross.  This totally satisfied the justice and wrath of God on sin once and for all and forever. Believing all these things about God and ourselves ……

We then repent, i.e. change our thinking about our condition, that because of our sin we deserve Hell and we have no other hope except through Jesus Christ, we will then turn from our sinfulness and everything else we were trusting to help us (in our own minds) earn Heaven and then turn to Jesus Christ and Him alone once and for all to forgive us and save us forever!  As the great John the Baptist said in John 1:29b, “Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.”

“What do you believe …?” Good Question, because if we believe right (like the Bible, viz. like God) then we know how to live right. Right beliefs/thinking bring about right living!

We believe the Bible is the living Word of God, God’s mind on every subject relevant to life and eternity! The Bible is God’s Words, given and kept for every generation, as He promised. We believe for those who read and speak English, the Authorized King James Version is the complete Word of God.

We believe Jesus is God as well as the Holy Spirit and the Father. We believe they are the triune Jehovah, the Godhead, the trinity, one living and true God revealed in three distinct persons with equal attributes.

We believe God is not willing that any should perish in eternal Hell, so Jesus the only begotten Son willingly came, as the Father gave Him, and the Holy Spirit glorified Him. The Lord Jesus Christ is the only Saviour for all peoples for all ages. Salvation is a gift that Jesus Christ Himself paid for by dying for all mankind’s sins and shedding His blood on Calvary’s Cross. He satisfied the holy wrath and justice of God and purchased our salvation by living a sinless perfect life, dying our death for us (the awful cost of sin) and shedding His precious blood. He was buried and rose from the dead 3 days later, was seen by hundreds and is alive for evermore! He IS coming back again.

The Lord Jesus has left His faithful Churches to carry out His Commission to preach the Gospel to every creature, here and abroad. We are to tell folks everywhere the whole message about Jesus Christ. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) Hence, salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, plus nothing, minus nothing. If any man, woman, boy or girl would realize they are a sinner before God because they have done wrong and broken God’s laws and that all their good deeds/works will never get them any closer to Heaven;  but that eternal salvation is based solely on what Jesus Christ has already done for them on the Cross.  And if anyone would turn from their “good works” and their “bad deeds” and place their trust in Jesus Christ alone believing His death, burial and resurrection is the only sufficient way of salvation then they would get saved once and for all and forever and go to Heaven when they die! We are to then baptize the saved and disciple them to mature Christians to do likewise.

Likely that is enough to give you the heart of what we believe and for Whom we live!  -Pastor Spence

A man in a certain town used to call the telephone operator every morning at about the same hour to ask for the correct time. One day the operator asked him why he did so.

“It’s like this,” the man replied, “I want to be very careful to get the exact time, because I am the one who blows the company’s whistle at noon.” “My”, exclaimed the operator, “I always set our clock by your whistle!” Like millions who are going around in the same confused circle in this world because they have no true standard on which to base their beliefs and values. The result is uncertainty, pride, fear, confusion, destruction and waste. Isaiah 59:14b says, “… for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.”   God had again and again hoisted a standard through the centuries for mankind signifying His rallying point  where His truth, protection and blessing were found.  Isaiah 49:22 “Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people..”.  The Lord Jesus has maintained a standard for mankind and will keep it hoisted.

The Standard is not man-made plans or opinions but the very Words of the LORD – the Bible! John 5:39-40, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” John 10:35b, “.. the scripture cannot be broken.” Psalm 100:5 “For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 117:2 “For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.”

Trust the never changing Standard, the Bible, given and preserved without error.  It is kept by the omnipotent, never changing LORD.  He has promised to have the Scriptures for all generations.  It just so happens He has never failed to keep a promise.  “Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.”  1 Kings 8:56

“For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.    2Corinthians 1:19-20    “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.”  Titus 1:2

“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” 1 Peter 3:10-12
Almost two years ago, my dear father, became “absent from the body and … present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8  He had reached 91 years and 17 days in our earth time. He has been present with the Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven ever since.  Why?  How?  Because he turned from his sinfulness and turned to Jesus Christ alone by faith alone for his complete salvation over 57 years ago.  When one goes to Jesus Christ for forgiveness of their sin and the    “already paid for by Jesus blood – gift of everlasting life”,  they receive exactly what He promised – an eternal salvation! SAVED FOREVER – because of what Jesus did FOR them in His death, burial, and resurrection! When my dad finally understood this he simply turned his whole case over to the Lord Jesus. He came to realize, like Jonah, “Salvation is of the LORD.”
There was an awakening time for my dad. He was attending the funeral of  a nephew. The rabbi said “The LORD gave and the LORD hath taken away, blessed be the name of the LORD.”  This enraged my father. He said to himself, “I’d rather have a man cuss me out than say that to me about my dead child.” As he thought on the power of life and death that the living and true God held in His hands, he vowed, “Lord, if you let me keep my little girl, I’ll do my best to please You and raise her right.”
This understanding of the power of God and the conviction of his sinfulness led him to truly seek the Lord. Proverbs 9:10 tells us, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”   There was a time as he sought the Lord for help; so he attended a Church where some truly saved Bible believing men saw his condition and said, “Lonnie, you look like you are seeking the Lord.” My dad responded in tears, “I am; but I don’t know how to find him.” These men took him aside and prayed for him concerning the salvation of his soul through the merits of Jesus Christ.
It was soon after this encounter with the truth of Jesus Christ as Saviour that he trusted the Lord Jesus as his own God and Saviour.  The LORD gave Lonnie a personal spiritual song at this time. “This my Love, my Love of fancy, this my God in Heaven above. He’s the One Who shows us mercy; He’s the One Who cares for my soul. The only One Whose heart is tender; the only One Whose heart’s not cold. This my Love, my Love of fancy, He’s my Jesus Who died for my soul.”
The opening passage of Bible verses in this article really depict how Lonnie Edwin Spence Sr. lived.  There was a beginning.  It started with the new life God gave to my dad when he trusted Jesus Christ as His personal Saviour!  You too can have brand new life, a new start, the new nature of Jesus Christ in the heart; and a salvation that lasts forever!  Place your faith in Jesus alone as your God and Saviour.   “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”              2 Corinthians 5:17

Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue..” A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and 2 of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the 2 frogs that they were as good as dead. The 2 frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to just stop the pain and die. But he jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, “Are you stupid?  Didn’t you hear us?”   The frog signed to them that he was deaf.  And here, he had thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

There is power of life or death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it. So be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words …. it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. The Lord Jesus Christ stated, “.. the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, a nd believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24

Psalm 14:1 says, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” Clearly then we live in a “FOOL”-ish society, a world with many fools because they deny  the RESURRECTION of the Lord Jesus Christ bodily from the dead (not honest inquiry, searching and investigating, but scorners and mockers of the truth) .

The Bible, the inspired written and preserved record of the Almighty triune Jehovah (trinity), declares without hesitation multiple times that God the Son, Jesus Christ was manifest in flesh and walked this earth in human form for 33+ years never once sinning! He then allowed Himself to be crucified by the very creatures he had created (John 1:3, Colossians 1:16) on Calvary’s Cross. Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and He was then buried and rose from the dead the third day according to the Scriptures. He was seen by 100′s and is alive for evermore. He is the Saviour of the world, the only One in God’s Word ever called the Saviour!   John 4:42 “And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.”

Jesus Himself said in Revelation 1:18, ” I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”    Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”  1 John 4:14  “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.”

John 6:47  “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”    John 11:25, “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

We had a wonderful Good Neighbour Sunday on March 21. Our folks and their guests were blessed by great music and warm fellowship. They heard the excellent saving Gospel of Jesus Christ and enjoyed a delicious lunch provided for all attending the morning ministries.

April 9 – 11 We’ll have Evangelist Jacob Giesbrecht with us. This Friday our evening meeting starts at 7:00pm. The Saturday Meeting is just for men in the morning.   Now Sunday morning April 11 is our FRIEND Day. It all begins at 10:10am 19869 Fraser Hwy Langley. There will be inspiring music and great preaching again. All who attend are provided with a delicious lunch as well. Be our guest and don’t miss the Lord using His Word in your heart and life!   The Sunday Evening Service begins at 6:00pm with Evangelist Giesbrecht.  Again, This Sunday it all begins at 10:10am April 11 @ 19869 Fraser Hwy Langley.

Every Sunday our ministries have Bible Classes and Worship for all ages. This includes Kids’ church and our new Teen class. For fourteen years we have held services twice every month (and fifth Sundays) at elderly care homes. We have been involved in many Church plants and have a fruitful Missions outreach as well as in the Langley community. We believe the Bible and endeavour to live Its instructions in everyday life. As the Word of God says, Jesus Christ is the only Saviour; hence the only way to Heaven. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12.   The focus, the emphasis, the priority of Churches and life is to be on the Lord Jesus Christ, God and Saviour, and His Salvation. This, the Bible teaches, is the reason for “Church-how it’s meant to be!”  We give God the Praise and Thanks for how He has blessed us!

If we can be of any spiritual help, phone us 604.534.4797 or email us vbclangley@hotmail.com. There is absolutely nothing more important than the Saviour and His Salvation in your life!

The excellent word “charity” in God’s Word is what genuine “love” is. We think of charity as the giving out of our resources to unselfishly meet the needs of another. This concept is still relevant in the sense of what love really means. Hence, “charity” here means “the unselfish giving of one’s self in sacrificing what is necessary to meet the needs of another first, before your own!” This genuine “love” is a resolute commitment not just an emotional infatuation or a lust; but a choice to give yourself, to make another reassured and fulfilled. Notice the 9 qualities of this charity type of love:

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
“Charity suffereth long (patient) , and is kind (considerate); charity envieth not (generous) ; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up (humility/meekness), Doth not behave itself unseemly (courteous/propriety), seeketh not her own (unselfish), is not easily provoked (good temper), thinketh no evil (guileless); Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth (sincereity); Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth:”

Here are some admonitions and helps to rekindle or keep your marriage alive and well:

In order to uncover the processes that destroy unions, marital researchers study couples over the course of years, and even decades, and retrace the steps of those who have split up back to their wedding day. What they are discovering is unsettling. None of the factors one would guess might predict a couple’s durability actually does. It’s not how in love a newlywed couple say they are; nor how much affection they exchange; nor how much they fight or what they fight about. In fact, couples who will endure and those who won’t last, look remarkably similar in the early days.
Do you and your spouse feed each other a steady diet of put-downs? If you do, your marital ship could very likely be headed for shipwreck. When psychologists Nortarius and Markman studied newlyweds over the first decade of marriage, they discovered that couples who stayed together uttered 5 or fewer put-downs in every 100 comments to each other. But couples who inflicted twice as many verbal wounds — 10 or more putdowns/insults out of every 100 comments — later split up. That gap magnified over the following decade until couples heading downhill were flinging five times as many cruel and invalidating comments at each other as happy couples. Watch what you say! Hostile putdowns, little, nit-picking comments are like a cancer in marriage. “In the end, relentless unremitting negativity takes control and the couple can’t get through a week without major blowups.” U.S. News & World Report, Feb 21, 1994

Twelve Rules for a Happy Marriage. 1. Never both be angry at the same time. 2. Never yell at each other unless the house is on fire. 3. Remember that it takes two to argue. The one who is wrong is the one who will be doing most of the talking. 4. Yield to the wishes of the other–as an exercise in self-discipline, if you can’t think of a better reason. 5. If you have a choice between making yourself or your mate look good–choose your mate. 6. If you feel you must criticize, do so lovingly. 7. Never bring up a mistake of the past. 8. Neglect the whole world rather than each other. 9. Never let the day end without saying at least one kind, complimentary thing to your life partner. 10. Never meet or depart without an affectionate greeting. 11. When you’ve made a mistake, talk it out, admit it, sincerely apologize for forgiveness. 12. Never go to bed angry. copied & edited

Romans 4:21 “And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.” Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that he should lie … hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken and shall he not make it good?” 1Kings 8:56b “… there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised..” Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” John 10:35c “… the scripture cannot be broken.”

Legend has it that a man was lost in the desert, just dying for a drink of water. He stumbled upon an old shack-ramshackled, windowless, roofless, weatherbeaten and old. He looked about this place and found a little shade from the heat of the desert sun. As he glanced around he saw a pump about fifteen feet away–an old, rusty water pump. He stumbled over to it, grabbed the handle, and began to pump up and down, up and down. Nothing came out.

Disappointed, he staggered back. He noticed off to the side an old jug. He looked at it, wiped away the dirt and dust, and read a message that said, “You have to prime the pump with all the water in this jug, my friend. P.S.: Be sure you fill the jug again before you leave.”

He popped the cork out of the jug and sure enough, it was almost full of water! Suddenly, he was faced with a decision. If he drank the water, he could live. Ah, but if he poured all the water in the old rusty pump, maybe it would yield fresh, cool water from down deep in the well, all the water he wanted.
He studied the possibility of both options. What should he do, pour it into the old pump and take a chance on fresh, cool water or drink what was in the old jug and ignore its message? Should he waste all the water on the hopes of those flimsy instructions written, no telling how long ago?

Reluctantly he poured all the water into the pump. Then he grabbed the handle and began to pump, squeak, squeak, squeak. Still nothing came out! Squeak, squeak, squeak. A little bit began to dribble out, then a small stream, and finally it gushed! To his relief, fresh, cool water poured out of the rusty pump. Eagerly, he filled the jug and drank from it. He filled it another time and once again drank its refreshing contents.
Then he filled the jug for the next traveler. He filled it to the top, popped the cork back on, and added this little note: “Believe me, it really works. You have to give it all away before you can get anything back.”

That is the essence of genuine faith! It is not a risk, but it is a challenge to human reasoning. Faith will call on us to do the unthinkable so that we might receive the impossible!

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

The world’s wisdom says. “I’ll believe it – when I see it.” God’s wisdom from His infallible Word, the Bible, tells us to BELIEVE HIM (HIS BIBLE PROMISES) THEN YOU’LL SEE IT. Psalm 27:13 “I had fainted, unless I had BELIEVED TO SEE the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
